Notes - ODU
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Old Dominion baseball team is set to face Marshall from April 2-4 for its first road series of the season. Head coach Chris Finwood's Monarchs have put together a 4-0 midweek road record in 2021.
All four games will be streamed on CUSA.tv.
The Monarchs are coming off a series win over FIU, outscoring the Panthers, 45- 26 at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex last weekend. Finwood won his 500th career game in ODU's 14-0 blowout of FIU in game one of the doubleheader this past Saturday.
On March 30, 2021, ODU checked in at the No. 32 spot in the RPI. They also received 17 votes in the most recent USA Today Coaches Poll. The Monarchs rank top-20 in the nation for doubles (49), hit by pitch (40), hits (230), home runs (36), runs (184), scoring (8.4), slugging percentage (.525) and triples (8).
Individually, Junior Andy Garriola leads the country in RBIs (36). ODU will go with the same starting rotation as last weekend's series against FIU. Tommy Gertner (Friday), Nick Pantos (Saturday), Hunter Gregory (Saturday) and Ryne Moore (Sunday) have compiled 112 strikeouts in over 84 innings of work. The Monarch squad owns a 3.72 ERA.
About the Thundering Herd
Marshall visited Florida Atlantic for the opening weekend of league play and dropped four straight contests to the Owls. The Herd are led by Luke Edwards (.327). Overall, Marshall is hitting .258 as a team with a 6.41 ERA. The Herd were selected to finish sixth in the C-USA East preseason poll. In Huntington, Marshall owns a 2-1 mark.
In the last meeting between the Herd and Monarchs, ODU picked up the series win, sweeping Marshall, 3-0 in May of 2019. All three ball games were close, as ODU outscored the Herd, 21-16.
