BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Old Dominion men's soccer team (1-0-1, 0-0-1 C-USA) played UAB (2-7-1, 0-0-1) to a 1-1 double overtime draw on Saturday afternoon at BBVA Field.

"I am really proud of our guys today, especially after going down early, we battled back and earned a well deserved point," said ODU head coach Alan Dawson. "We look forward to our home opener next Sunday versus C-USA rival South Carolina."

The Blazers jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage after a Tyrell Price goal in the 15th minute.

The Monarchs responded in the 30th minute, when Ettore Casadei put away the equalizer for ODU, which was assisted by Edison Giron.

With a tie score at the half, Old Dominion held a 3-2 advantage for corners, while UAB outshot the Monarchs 5-3 in the opening frame. Djibril Doumbia made two first half saves.

In the second half, both teams fired four shots, while the Blazers attempted three of the half's five corner kicks. Doumbia added another two saves to the tally in the second frame.

UAB would take one shot per overtime period, but both were gobbled up by ODU's Doumbia, ultimately resulting in a 1-1 draw for the Monarchs in Birmingham on Saturday afternoon. Doumbia finished the match with five saves.

Casadei and Ruben Pederson each attempted two shots for Old Dominion.

Old Dominion will be back in action on Sunday, March 14 when the Monarchs host South Carolina for a 2 p.m. league match at the ODU Soccer Complex.
