NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women's tennis team (7-4) swept Norfolk State (2-5) by a 7-0 score on Sunday afternoon at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center. Sunday marked Senior Day for ODU's Holly Hutchinson and Brooke Pilkington. The Monarchs have won six of their last seven matches, as well as five in a row, while outscoring their opponents 30-5 during the win streak.
"Congratulations to Brooke and Holly," said ODU head coach Dominic Manilla. "I'm glad the weather held on and we were able to give them a proper senior day. They have both meant so much to the program and it's bittersweet to see them go."
ODU claimed the doubles points after receiving wins from Hutchinson/Tatsiana Sasnouskaya (6-1) and Pilkington/Alexandra Viktorovich (6-0).
All six of the Monarchs singles wins came in straight sets on Sunday.
Picking up singles wins for ODU were No. 40 nationally ranked Hutchinson (6-0, 6-0), Yulia Starodubtseva (6-0, 6-0), Sasnouskaya (6-3, 6-0), Pilkington (6-1, 6-0), Viktorovich (6-0, 6-3) and Shahar Biran (6-0, 6-0).
Old Dominion will return to action on Sunday, March 28, when the Monarchs travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina for a 1 p.m. match against Wake Forest.
