NORFOLK, Va. - Tatsiana Sasnouskaya (Minsk, Belarus) of the Old Dominion women's tennis team was named the Conference USA Athlete of the Week presented by Surf & Turf Golf, as announced by league officials on Wednesday afternoon.
Last week, Sasnouskaya went a perfect 4-0 in her singles and doubles matches, helping lift No. 38 nationally ranked ODU to two wins over a pair of instate rivals. Both of her singles wins came in straight sets (6-2, 6-4 and 6-1, 6-1). Against JMU, she played No. 3 singles and then against VCU, she slid up to the No. 2 singles spot. Her singles wins against the Dukes and Rams, made the team score 3-0 in favor of the Monarchs. In doubles, she outscored her opponents by a 12-2 combined score. Both of her doubles wins clinched the team point for Old Dominion. The Tennis Monarchs have won five of their last six matches, as well as four in a row, while outscoring their opponents 23-5 during the win streak.
Sasnouskaya and the Monarchs will return to action on Sunday, March 21, when ODU welcomes Norfolk State to the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center for an 11 a.m. start. All ODU tennis matches are closed to the general public due to COVID-19 restrictions.
