Women’s Golf Finishes Seventh at Briar’s Creek Invitational

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – The No. 44 Old Dominion women's golf team posted a season-best 292 (+4) en route to a seventh place finish at the Briar's Creek Invitational hosted by the College of Charleston. Three Monarchs recorded even par 72s on Tuesday afternoon at the 6,110 yard Golf Club at Briar's Creek.
 
"Overall we had a great tournament and this is a step in the right direction for our team," ODU head coach Mallory Hetzel said. "We beat some highly ranked teams and look forward to competing again next weekend."

Jana Melichova finished in a tie for 14th following a second round 78 (+6) and a final round even-par 72. Improving from her first round, Leah Onosato fired a 70 (-2) in the second round and closed out with an even-par 72 on Tuesday to finish inside the top-20.
 

Freshman Elsie Verhoeven recorded a career-low 72 on Tuesday following her second round 77 (+5). Verhoeven tallied three birdies in round three and ended the tournament tied for 30th. ODU compiled 39 birdies throughout the three-round event, third-most in the 18-team field.
 
Senior Noemie Sudron finished in a tie for 34th following a final round 76 (+4). Justine Lauer rounded out ODU scoring, recording her best round of the tournament on Tuesday with a 77 (+5) to end up in a tie for 87th
 
Host College of Charleston came out victorious, finishing one stroke ahead of No. 18 Miami. ODU's three-round 895 (303-300-292) scorecard finished ahead of three nationally-ranked opponents.
 
Up Next
ODU will close out the regular season on March 26-28 as the Monarchs compete in the Clemson Invitational.
