NORFOLK, Va. -  The Old Dominion University football team practiced for the sixth time this spring and completed its second week of spring practice on Saturday.

The scrimmage on Saturday was the first one of spring practice and culminated the second week of practice.

"I like the energy the guys are practicing with on a consistent basis. There seems to be more juice, the guys are excited to be out here, it's not a chore," ODU head coach Ricky Rahne said. "The second thing is the execution. Everything looks crisper. There's not a period where the offense dominates, or the defense dominates. It's a back and forth and that's due to better execution across the board."

For the first scrimmage of spring ball, Rahne was pleased with the product on the field.

"I thought it was really good. I think we're tackling really well. We're protecting the ball on offense, which is a good thing.  I really enjoyed it," Rahne said. "Obviously, the guys like getting over here, it just brings a different sense of urgency."

Rahne and the Monarchs begin the third week of spring practice on Monday, and plan to continue to add new wrinkles to practice.

"We'll start to get into different situations, red zone, two-minute, and things like that. We'll have our first big scrimmage next Saturday, and that'll be important to make sure we get that. We'll move the ball a little more to get them some more situations and get that covered."
