NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team welcomes No. 17 Richmond to the L.R. Hill Sports Complex on Sunday at 11 a.m. in the Monarchs' final nonconference game of the season.
 
ABOUT ODU
The Monarchs lost 14-8 to Liberty on Wednesday afternoon. Trailing by seven goals early in the second half, ODU utilized a 7-3 run across nearly 20 minutes of action to pull to within three at 11-8. However, the Monarchs could not complete the comeback as the Flames closed the game with three unanswered goals.
 
Claire Porter scored three goals on Wednesday for just the second hat trick of her career. The junior chipped in a pair of assists as well for a personal-best five points. Lindsay Baer scored a pair of goals and notched two assists as well.
 
ABOUT RICHMOND
The Spiders enter Sunday with a 3-1 record and are ranked 17th in the latest IWLCA Coaches Poll. Richmond's lone loss of the year came at the hands of No. 14 Virginia, 15-9. Most recently, the Spiders topped Longwood by a 19-3 score on March 3.
 
UR boasts a pair of Preseason Inside Lacrosse Honorable Mention All-Americans in Sam Geiersbach and Arden Tierney. Geiersbach leads the team in points (15) and assists (eight) and is tied for third in goals (seven). Tierney has six goals and five assists through four games.
 
THE SERIES
The two sides are meeting for the 49th time. Sunday's game will break a 24-24 deadlock in the overall series record. Richmond took last season's meeting 22-9.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
The Monarchs begin their inaugural campaign in the American Athletic Conference with home games against East Carolina on Friday, March 19 and Sunday, March 21. Both games start at 1 p.m.
 
COVID POLICIES
The L.R. Hill Sports Complex will welcome 600 fans on a first come, first served basis. The main gate opens 60 minutes prior to the start of the match. Spectator parking is available in Lot 43. Tailgating is not permitted.

Fans in attendance must comply with the following guidelines:

  • Mask required for entry. No gaiters.
  • Maintain social distancing while in the facility.
  • No large gatherings inside the facility (10+).
  • Please sit in the stands in the designated locations.
  • Wash hands frequently.

Due to popular demand, the Old Dominion University Athletics Department has made Monarch Fan Cutouts available for field hockey and women's lacrosse.

The "Monarch Cutouts", presented by Chartway, are available for $59. Monarch Cutouts purchased for ODU field hockey will be placed in a highly visible area of the L.R. Hill Sports Complex and will stay up throughout the spring, for the entirety of the ODU field hockey and women's lacrosse seasons. Photos of the fan cutouts will be posted on social media throughout the season.
