HARRISONBURG, Va. – The No. 37 nationally ranked Old Dominion women's tennis team (5-4) gave James Madison (3-1) its first loss of the season by a 6-1 score on Friday afternoon at the Hillside Courts. The Tennis Monarchs have won three matches in a row, while outscoring their opponents 18-3. Four of ODU's five singles victories came in straight sets on Friday.
Yulia Starodubtseva/Alesya Yakubovich (6-1) and Holly Hutchinson/Tatsiana Sasnouskaya (6-2) picked up doubles wins for Old Dominion.
Holly Hutchinson (6-0, 6-1), Yulia Starodubtseva (6-2, 6-4), Tatsiana Sasnouskaya (6-2, 6-4), Alesya Yakubovich (6-3, 7-5) and Shahar Biran (6-2, 3-6, 6-2) claimed victories in singles for ODU.
Old Dominion, who has won four of its last five matches, will be right back in action tomorrow, Saturday, March 13, when the Tennis Monarchs travel to Richmond, Va. for a 1 p.m. match against VCU.
