NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion women's basketball freshman guard Lanay Wheaton was named Conference USA Freshman of the Week as Presented by Surf & Turf Golf.
The Hope, Arkansas native stepped up off the bench for ODU, recording a season-high 11 points in the Monarchs' Friday night win over Marshall and seven points on Saturday in the Monarchs' overtime loss to the Herd. Five of Wheaton's seven points on Saturday came in the fourth quarter, which helped send the Monarchs to overtime, eventually falling short. The rookie also grabbed a season-high five boards Saturday and two on Friday.
Conference USA Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week are chosen by a vote of the league's 14 communications directors.
Wheaton and the Monarchs return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 10 (6:30 p.m.) when they welcome Charlotte to Chartway Arena for ODU's annual Hoops for the Cure game.
