BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Old Dominion women's tennis team (2-3) cruised to a 5-2 victory over Virginia Tech (1-2) on Sunday afternoon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
ODU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after picking up the doubles with victories from Holly Hutchinson/Tatsiana Sasnouskaya (6-1) and No. 8 nationally ranked Yulia Starodubtseva/Alesya Yakubovich, who downed No. 58 Nika Kozar/Elizabet Danailova (6-4).
Brooke Pilkington (6-0, 6-0), Tatsiana Sasnouskaya (6-1, 6-1) and Holly Hutchinson (6-3, 6-2) picked up straight set victories to clinch the match for the Monarchs.
Adding to the win, was ODU's Yulia Starodubtseva, winning her match 6-1, 4-6, 10-3.
"This was a nice win over a tough Virginia Tech team," said ODU head coach Dominic Manilla. "Since I have been the coach here, we have never beaten Virginia Tech, so today feels very special."
Old Dominion will return to action next Friday, Feb. 12 when the Monarchs travel to Raleigh, N.C. for a 1:00 p.m. match at NC State.
