NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion women's soccer team (1-2-1) and Liberty (0-1-1) played to a 0-0 double overtime draw on Saturday afternoon at the ODU Soccer Complex. In her first start of the season, ODU's Jasmine Crawley made five saves in 110 scoreless minutes. In ODU's two home matches so far this season, Old Dominion's defense has yet to allow a goal in 200 total minutes.
"I felt we struggled to match Liberty's intensity in the first half, but did much better in the second half and had much more control of the game without really testing their keeper too much," said ODU Associate Head Coach Michelle Barr. "Defensively, I thought we were really solid especially in the backline, which was very pleasing and a huge positive heading into conference play next week."
Ryan Parncutt and Brynhildur Vala Bjornsdottir made their debuts for the Monarchs on Saturday, while fellow freshman Yuliia Khrystiuk received her first collegiate start.
At the half, the Flames held a slight advantage for shots (4-3) and corners (2-1).
In the second half, Liberty again outshot the Monarchs 4-3, while the Flames took six of the seven corner kicks, but ODU's defense held strong, forcing overtime.
In the first overtime session, Liberty attempted two shots and Old Dominion had one. In the second extra period, ODU's Crawley was credited with two saves to keep the match scoreless.
For the game, Liberty took 13 shots and eight corners, while ODU finished the match with eight shots and two corners. Emily Garrick led the Monarchs with three shots, while Morgan Hall attempted two.
Old Dominion will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. EST, when the Monarchs travel to the Queen City to open up league play against Charlotte (0-1-0).
