EATONTON, Ga. – Following the first round of the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational, the Old Dominion women's golf team sits in second place, just one stroke behind host Mercer. The Monarchs put together a 10-over (298) score on the 6,031-yard course.
"It's been almost a year since we competed and we are playing a new format and a new golf course too," said head coach Mallory Hetzel. "We started slow which is more than understandable considering the afore mentioned. The team really played well the last 12 holes or so. They grinded hard for every shot and kept us in good position for the next two day. Very proud of Noemie and her play. She's our senior and her good performance has been years in the making. We are looking forward to tomorrow."
Senior Noemie Sudron led the Monarchs with an even-par 72. She had four birdies and 11 pars on the day. The Rouen, France native currently sits in second.
Junior Leah Onosato finished right behind Sudron, carding a one-over 73 and sitting in a tie for third individually.
For the day, ODU led the 15-team field in par 5 scoring (4.90) and birdies (11). After the first round, ODU sits ahead of No. 35 North Florida and a pair of C-USA opponents in Middle Tennessee and Southern Miss.
Justine Lauer (76), Jana Melichova (77) and Pilar Muguruza (78) round out the ODU scorecard. Playing as an individual, freshman Elsie Verhoeven shot an 88.
