NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion women's volleyball team is set to hit the road Friday as they take on Liberty at 1:30 p.m. before heading home to welcome Norfolk State to the ODU Volleyball Center on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Friday's contest against the Flames will stream on ESPN+ and Sunday's home matchup against crosstown opponent NSU will stream on CUSA.TV. 

The Monarchs are coming off a historic weekend where it won its first-ever match on Friday, Jan. 22 with a sweep over George Mason. On Saturday, ODU took on a tough VCU squad that down the Monarchs, 3-0. The following day, ODU came back to defeat Delaware State in five sets, 3-2. 

ODU's .217 hitting percentage ranks top-60 in the country. Individually, Teresa Atilano's 8.80 assists per set is 70th best in the nation. Additionally, Alessia Sgherza who has compiled 40 kills through 11 sets, averages 4.18 points per set, good for 76th most in the country. 

ODU VOLLEYBALL FAN INFORMATION

  • The Center will have limited capacity (Approx. 200) with socially-distanced seating – Seating is first come, first served.
  • Entrance will open to patrons 60 minutes prior to the start of the match and is located at the NE corner of the Jim Jarrett Athletic Admin. Bldg.
  • Matches that are open to the public this season do not require a ticket and are free admittance, based on availability. 
  • Concessions will be available for purchase
  • COVID-19 Guidelines for attending this season:
    • Mask required for entry. No gaiters
    • Maintain social distancing while in the facility
    • No large gatherings inside the facility (10+)
    • Please sit in the stands in the designated socially-distanced seat locations
    • Wash hands frequently

About Liberty
The Flames are coming off a season-opening loss to VCU in three straight sets. Trinity Watts leads Liberty offensively with nine kills and teammate Lilly Kruse has added 5.00 digs per set, which is top-40 in the nation. Last season, Liberty compiled a 21-12 mark, which featured wins over Virginia, Virginia Tech and a postseason trip to the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC). 

About Norfolk State
The Spartans opened their season last Sunday with a 3-2 win over mutual opponent George Mason. Rachel Williams paces NSU offensively, having notched 15 kills in the Spartans victory over Mason. On the defensive side, Nicole Rodriguez has played in all five sets for the Spartans and averages 5.40 digs per set, which ranks 22nd in the nation. Prior to making the short trip to ODU, the Spartans are set to face VCU at home on Friday. Last season, NSU recorded a 2-23 overall mark.

Monarch Fan Cutouts
Due to popular demand, the Old Dominion University athletics department has made Monarch Fan Cutouts available for volleyball.
 
The "Monarch Cutouts", presented by Chartway, are available for $59 and will be in attendance at all home games for the 2021 season. Photos of the fan cutouts will be posted on social media throughout the season.
