NORFOLK, Va. – Volleyball head coach Fred Chao has announced the dates and opponents for ODU's inaugural volleyball season.
"We are excited…the kind of excitement that builds over nearly two years," expressed head coach Fred Chao. "There are so many people who helped us get to this point, and we are grateful to be in this position. The players have thrived under these unprecedented conditions and we are ready to play."
The Monarchs will begin their first-ever season with three-straight home contests on Jan. 22, 23 and 24 when ODU hosts George Mason, VCU and Delaware State, respectively, in the newly renovated ODU Volleyball Center.
Due to attendance limitations put in place by state COVID-19 restrictions, the Monarchs' first two contests, on January 22 and 23, will be closed to the general public. A limited number of friends and family of the team will be permitted to attend those matches. Sunday's match, on January 24, against Delaware State will be open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis with limited attendance. Doors open one hour prior to the start of the match.
In order to watch the inaugural volleyball game against George Mason, ODU Athletics is pleased to be able to offer fans a free live stream of the match, which will be available on ODUSports.com. Following the conclusion of the match, the game will be available to watch on-demand on the Monarch Media video player on ODUSports.com.
ODU will hit the road to face Liberty on Friday, Jan. 29 before welcoming crosstown opponent, Norfolk State, to the ODU Volleyball Center on Jan. 31.
The following week, ODU will open up its league slate when they travel to FIU.
In order to focus on the health and safety of student-athletes, Conference USA implemented adjustments to its regular season conference scheduling. As part of the league schedule changes, all volleyball games will be played on Sunday and Monday.
Additionally, on March 3, ODU will welcome UNCW for a non-conference matchup. The Monarchs then head to Delaware State on March 7 to close out non-conference action.
All home contests will be available to stream via CUSA.TV with the exception of the Monarchs first contest against George Mason, which will be available free of charge on ODUSports.com.

Monarch Fan Cutouts
Due to popular demand, the Old Dominion University athletics department has made Monarch Fan Cutouts available for volleyball.
The "Monarch Cutouts", presented by Chartway, are available for $59 and will be in attendance at all home games for the 2021 season. Photos of the fan cutouts will be posted on social media throughout the season. To have your cutout in time for volleyball, your order must be purchased by Jan. 12
