NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion and ESPN Radio 94.1 have partnered together for Throwback Thursday Monarch Rewinds to air great ODU games of the past. This week's rewind will be the 1997 women's basketball Final Four overtime victory over Stanford to send the Monarchs to the NCAA Championship game. The game will air on ESPN Radio 94.1 this Thursday, August 6 at 7:00 p.m. ET.

"I've been here at the station for 21 of the 27-year partnership with ODU Sports. We are excited to bring back some nostalgic games to re-air for ODU fans and alumni to reminisce," said Keith Barton, Vice President and General Manager of Max Media of Hampton Roads. "We can't wait to get back to live sports and events here in Hampton Roads, but for the short term, I hope everyone enjoys some ODU Sports Radio!"

In a game where ODU trailed nearly the entire first half, the Monarchs went into the break behind 37-30. ODU came out of the locker room with aggression, opening the second half on a 8-0 run against the Stanford Cardinal, regaining the lead just two minutes into the second half of play. Throughout the remainder of the game, both teams traded buckets, bringing the contest into overtime. Although playing down two key players in Nyree Roberts and Mery Andrade due to fouling out, ODU's defense held strong through overtime in a wild finish.

Seniors Clarisse Machanguana and Ticha Penicheiro led the way for the Monarchs, both recording 18 points each. After a scoreless first half for Machanguana, the All-American recorded all of her 18 points in the second half and overtime to be named Nike Player of the Game.
