Men's Golf to Compete at Pinehurst Intercollegiate

Filip Wetterqvist and the Monarchs head south to compete in the Pinehurst Intercollegiate

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men's golf team will be spending this upcoming weekend competing in the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in Pinehurst, N.C. 
 
The Monarchs started their spring slate of tournaments with a fourth-place showing at the Martin Downs Collegiate three weeks ago. It was their fourth top-five finish of the season. Gustav Fransson led the way for ODU with a 9-under 207, finishing in sixth place of the field of 94 golfers. It was Fransson's third-straight top-10 showing. Senior Carter Morgan also performed well in Palm City, Fla., placing in a tie for 11th with a 5-under 211. 
 
So far this season, Fransson leads the Monarchs with a 70.1 average round score, followed by Morgan's mark of 70.8.
 
The Pinehurst Intercollegiate will be played at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club's No. 8 course, which is a par-71, 6,937-yard layout. Out of the 13-team field, ODU is the highest-ranked team competing in Pinehurst this weekend, checking in a 122 according to the latest Golfstat team rankings. Last season, the Monarchs finished in third in this event, their highest finish of the 2018-2019 season.
 
The Monarchs will be seeing fellow Conference USA (C-USA) member Marshall this weekend as the Thundering Herd will also be making the trek down to North Carolina. 

The Pinehurst Intercollegiate is an annual invitational championship of Division I collegiate teams and is a 20-year tradition at Pinehurst. The Intercollegiate is free and the public is welcome. 
 
Round one starts on Friday, March 6 at 8 a.m., with ODU's first tee time coming at 9:21 a.m. You can follow all of this weekend's action on GolfStat.
