NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion men's tennis head coach, Dominik Mueller announced the addition of Codie Van Schalwyk to the Monarchs roster on Tuesday afternoon. Van Schalwyk reigns from Södertälje, Sweden and will be a freshman for ODU for the 2021-22 season.
"Codie is the perfect addition to our program, he checks all the boxes we are looking for in a recruit," said Mueller. "We had the pleasure of getting to know him and his parents via some Zoom calls and it became clear that our values and interests align. Combined with his big game and talent, he will also bring international experience, having played many ITF Junior tournaments and practicing at the ITF African High-Performance Center in Casablanca."
Van Schalwyk has been ranked as high as No. 215 in the Junior World ITF rankings and represented his home country Namibia in the 2019 Davis Cup. He has also practiced at the ITF African High-Performance Tennis Center in Casablanca, Morocco with some of the best African junior tennis players.
"I chose ODU because I think we've got one thing in mind and that is to bring out the best in each other and also because I know ODU will take me one step closer to my dream," Van Schalwyk stated.
