Women's Hoops Set to Host USC Upstate on Sunday

NORFOLK, Va. - ODU women's basketball will continue its home stint with a visit from USC Upstate on Sunday, Dec. 13 at Chartway Arena. Tip-off between the Monarchs and the Spartans is set for 2 p.m.

The matchup will be streamed on CUSA.tv and aired on ESPN 94.1 radio featuring commentary from Doug Ripley and Susan Montgomery.

Notables
- The coaching matchup features two first-year head coaches in Becky Burke and DeLisha Milton-Jones.
- The last time the Spartans visited Chartway Arena (Nov. 13, 2012), ODU won handedly, 77-46.
- This will be just the second meeting ever between the two squads.  
- Against VCU, ODU held the Rams to just 7 points in the second quarter.
- Senior Victoria Morris drained 7 triples en route to a career-high 31 points against the Rams.
- T.J. Jordan was the last Monarch to score 10+ three's in a single game. That came on Feb, 8, 2007 against Northeastern
- Morris jumped up three spots on the 1K point club, she has now compiled 1,055 points in 88 games as a Monarch.
- Dejah Carter played a major role in the Monarchs OT win over VCU on Dec. 6, compiling 9 points and 8 boards in 35 minutes. She drained two free throws with 18 seconds left on the clock, which helped send ODU to OT.

Scouting the Spartans
In its last contest, the Spartans took down Flagler College, 52-42 on the Spartans home floor. Out of their first four opponents, two of them were from the power 5 ranks in Auburn and Alabama. Those two SEC opponents down the Spartans by a combined 39+ points. USC Upstate is led offensively by McKinley Brook-Sumpter who averages 16.0 ppg. On the defensive side, Marnicha Prudent averages 6.5 rpg while Denijsha Wilson and Dakota McCaughan each dished out 10 assists through four games. In its home opener, Upstate defeated St. Andrews University 86-40.

The "Monarch Cutouts", presented by Chartway, are available for $59 and will be placed in camera-view seats. The cutouts will be in attendance at all ODU men's and women's basketball games during the 2020-21 season. Be on the lookout during games because your Monarch Cutout could be featured on the game broadcast or ODU Basketball social media.
