NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion and ESPN Radio 94.1 have partnered together for Throwback Thursday Monarch Rewinds to air great ODU games of the past. This week's rewind will be the 2020 women's basketball Conference USA regular season victory over Rice, which snapped the Owls 30-game C-USA winning streak. The game will air on ESPN Radio 94.1 this Thursday, July 9 at 7:00 p.m. ET.
"I've been here at the station for 21 of the 27-year partnership with ODU Sports. We are excited to bring back some nostalgic games to re-air for ODU fans and alumni to reminisce," said Keith Barton, Vice President and General Manager of Max Media of Hampton Roads. "We can't wait to get back to live sports and events here in Hampton Roads, but for the short term, I hope everyone enjoys some ODU Sports Radio!"
The victory gave ODU a share of the conference lead. At the time, Rice also had a share of first, but the Feb. 13 win gave ODU the tiebreaker. Sophomore Ajah Wayne led ODU with 21 points, with five points critical points coming in overtime.
ODU took an early 20-12, went into halftime tied 28-28 and held the lead most of the second half. Victoria Morris made a 3-pointer with 4:56 left in the game to give the Monarchs a 55-51 lead, but then ODU's shooters went ice cold. The Monarchs did not score again in regulation and forced the Owls into overtime.
