GERMANY - Rising junior Jana Melichova of the Old Dominion women's golf team won the SLR Academy Invitational title on July 30 at Golf Club St. Leon-Rot. The Czech Republic native recorded a three-round total of 207 (-15) to win the tournament by four strokes.
"I loved the Saint Leon-Rot Resort and the golf course was in incredible shape," said Melichova. "I believe this is the most valuable title I have and it felt really good to compete again, especially against so many top players."
In a field of 67 players, Melichova put together three consecutive rounds of 69 on the 7,203-yard track. Melichova finished ahead of seven players in the top 100 of the Women's Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). Most notably, Melichova finished in front of Lucie Malchirand, the No. 10 ranked player in the WAGR.
"We are proud of Jana for winning such a prestigious title on a famous golf course against a very competitive field of players," explained head coach Mallory Hetzel. "Jana's scores were really impressive. Her favorite golfer, Tiger Woods, won three times early on in his professional career so maybe that provided her with a little extra motivation."
