The ODUSports.com staff has put together the top-10 list counting down the Greatest Moments of the 2019-20 Athletic Year, presented by Cox Business. We continue the countdown today with No. 7. Check back each Wednesday as we take a look at the top moments of the year and get closer to the No. 1 moment.

No. 7. Field Hockey's Ranked Victories

Early in the 2019 season, the Old Dominion field hockey team turned aside No. 17 Penn State on the road in a tight 2-1 affair, thanks to goals from both of its senior captains, Erin Huffman and Rebecca Birch. During conference play, the Monarchs went to Lynchburg and downed No. 15 Liberty, 3-2, behind two goals from senior Tori Harwood, to jump the Flames in the BIG EAST standings and in the national ranking.

The Monarchs would again face the top-20 ranked Flames, this time in the BIG EAST Championships semifinals, earning a 3-1 victory to advance to the conference championship match for the first time since 2013. Harwood, Riley Taylor and Nicole Fredricks each scored in the postseason victory. The three ranked wins helped ODU finish the season as the No. 17 team in the nation, according to the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll.
