Edwards Highlights the Monarchs All-Conference Accolades

DALLAS - Taylor Edwards earned First-Team All-C-USA,  Amari Young captured spots on the Second Team All-C-USA and the All-Defensive Team and Ajah Wayne tabbed a spot on the Second Team All-C-USA as announced by the league Monday morning.

Edwards, a guard turned in a strong senior campaign, leading the Monarchs in scoring, averaging 11.8 points per game. The Portsmouth, Va., native has also dished out 99 assists and averages 5.8 rebounds per game. Edwards turned in a career-high 29 points this season in the Monarchs contest against Charlotte. She has led ODU in scoring during five contests this season. The honor marks Edwards' first C-USA All-Conference accolade of her career. 

Sophomore Amari Young has been a force for the Monarchs this season packing the stat sheets. The South Carolina native leads the Monarchs in rebounding with 8.2 per game, which is good for seventh in the league. Young averages 10.6 points per game and has picked up 63 steals this season, which is second-most in the league. She has compiled four double-doubles and is the only sophomore to be named on the Defensive Team this season. 

Ajah Wayne rounds out the Monarch All-Conference accolades. A three-time C-USA Player of the Week, Wayne opened her season with a career-high 35 points to take down Auburn, the Monarchs first win over a Power 5 opponent since March 2015. Missing three games due to an ankle injury, Wayne averages 10.7 points per game and 6.9 rebounds per game. The sophomore has put together five double-doubles this season. 

The Defensive, Sixth, Newcomer and Freshman Players of the Year will be released tomorrow, Tuesday, March 10. The Player of the Year and Coach of the Year will then be released on Wednesday, March 11.

ODU heads to the C-USA Tournament in Frisco, Texas, this week as the No. 2 seed. The Monarchs open up against the winner of No. 7 UTEP/No. 10 Florida Atlantic on Thursday, March 12 at 2:30 p.m. ET.
