DALLAS - For the first time this season, Old Dominion's Kyle Battle was named Conference USA Hitter of the Week as announced by the league Monday afternoon
Battle led the Monarchs to a 4-0 week with a midweek victory over VMI and a weekend sweep over Rutgers. The senior averaged .412 last week, knocking in seven RBIs, seven hits and seven runs. In its largest margin of victory since 2017, Battle had four hits, a season high against VMI, defeating them 17-2. To open the weekend series against the Scarlet Knights, Battle hit a go-ahead triple in the eighth inning to top the Big Ten team, 3-1. In game two, Battle capped a three-run ninth inning rally with a walk-off single as Old Dominion Baseball overcame an early 5-0 deficit to defeat Rutgers 8-7. To cap off the weekend, he demolished a two-run homer to close out scoring in the Monarchs 11-1 win over Rutgers, which marked ODU's second sweep of the season, improving the Monarchs to 12-2, the best mark in the league.
