NORFOLK, Va. - The baseball Monarchs (12-2, 0-0 C-USA) will play a pair of midweek non-conference games before beginning C-USA action this weekend. ODU will host crosstown Norfolk State on Tuesday at 3 PM before heading to Campbell to face Campbell on Wednesday at 6 PM. Chris Finwood's baseball Monarchs are coming off a 4-0 week, downing VMI at home and sweeping Rutgers to win its fourth consecutive series.
ODU's game on Tuesday will be streamed on CUSA TV, while Andy Mashaw will have the audio only call on the road against Campbell. Audio can be found on ODUSports.com.
The Monarchs currently own the best mark in the league. Kyle Battle was named C-USA Hitter of the Week this afternoon after a standout week offensively, which featured seven hits, seven runs and seven RBIs. As a team, the Monarchs .319 batting average ranks eighth in the nation and best in the league.
About Norfolk State
The Monarchs did not meet with Norfolk State in 2019. In 2018, ODU defeated the Spartans, 9-1 early in the season. The crosstown team is currently riding a 12-game losing streak. Ty Hanchey paces the way offensively for the Spartans, averaging .368 and knocking in eight RBIs. As a team, Norfolk State is batting .255 through 15 games.
