Sa'Derian Perry was voted second in his weight class in the latest MAC Rankings

CLEVELAND, Ohio – In the Mid-American Conference (MAC) final February wrestling rankings, the Old Dominion wrestling team was voted in the sixth spot in the 15-team conference. In the individual rankings, five wrestling Monarchs were selected in the top-six in their respective weight class.

Sa'Derian Perry is the highest-ranked Monarch, checking in at second-place at 141 pounds. Perry sat atop the 141-pound poll in the three previous ranking periods before falling to second behind Central Michigan's Dresden Simon. This season, the redshirt senior has won three bouts against ranked opponents, all of which reside in the MAC, including Lock Haven's Kyle Shoop and Missouri's Grant Leeth, who are ranked third and sixth in the conference rankings, respectively.

For the fourth time in a row, Killian Cardinale comes in at No. 3 in the conference behind Drew Hildebrandt of Central Michigan and Luke Werner of Lock Haven at 125 pounds. Cardinale has won a team-high 22 bouts this season, five of which have come against ranked opponents. He is currently in a stretch that has seen him win seven of his last eight matchups.

At 165 pounds, Shane Jones was voted fourth in the conference. The redshirt senior has won five bouts against conference opponents and earlier in the season, he earned a 3-2 win by decision over Thomas Ballard of NC State, who was ranked 10th in the nation at the time.

Rounding out the top-five at 157 pounds is Larry Early, who is coming off of a 12-4 major decision victory over Alex Carida of Bloomsburg in the regular season finale. Early has won six of his last seven bouts and has put together a 17-5 record this season, with four losses coming against ranked opponents. Both he and Cardinale own a share of the team lead, taking down five ranked opponents on the year.

Checking in at sixth in the conference at 184 pounds is Antonio Agee. The Monarch senior has 19 total wins this season, 10 of which have come in dual competition.

As a team, the Monarchs fell behind Northern Illinois and settled into sixth place in the rankings with 15.0 points. Like it has been all season, Missouri was voted the best team in the conference, followed by a tie between Central Michigan and Rider for second place. Lock Haven checks in at fourth, followed by NIU in fifth-place with 16.0 points.

The 15 schools were ranked based on the number of first through sixth-place votes that were earned in the individual voting system. A first-place vote was worth six team points; a second-place vote earned five team points; third-seeded votes were worth four team points, while a fourth-place tally earned three points, with a fifth-place vote earned two points and a sixth-place vote received one point in the team ranking system.

The Monarchs wrapped up their regular season with a 33-3 victory over Bloomsburg for their fourth win in a row. ODU finished with a 6-2 conference record, good for second in the East Division behind Rider.

The two-day MAC Championships are set to begin on Friday, March 7 in DeKalb, Illinois on the campus of Northern Illinois.  For tickets to the MAC Championships, click here.
