Glory Johnson and Sabrina Leatherwood both garnered BIG EAST Weekly Awards on Monday afternoon

NEW YORK – Old Dominion lacrosse players Glory Johnson and Sabrina Leatherwood were named BIG EAST Attacker and Freshman of the Week respectively, the conference announced on Monday afternoon.

Johnson totaled 12 goals and 16 points, leading the ODU offense to two wins against VCU and Winthrop this past week. In the Monarchs' 14-9 win over the Rams on Wednesday, the senior matched her career-high with seven goals on 10 shots, while collecting seven draws. Three days later, Johnson scored five goals and added four assists, including the helper on the game-tying goal scored by Brooke Stein towards the end of the Monarchs' 17-15 victory. Her goals and points averages were both the highest in the BIG EAST for the week.

This is her first BIG EAST Weekly Award of the season after collecting two Attacker of the Week nods in 2019.

Last week, Johnson was named to the conference's Weekly Honor Roll after registering five points in ODU's first game of the season. In total Johnson's 15 goals and 21 points ranks her fourth and fifth in the nation, respectively.

Leatherwood earned the first two starts and the first two wins of her collegiate career while tending goal for the Monarchs in the victories over VCU and Winthrop. The freshman registered double-digit save totals in both affairs, turning aside 10 shots against the Rams and stopping 11 shots against the Eagles, totaling 21 saves for the week. Leatherwood faced 57 shots while defending the ODU net and posted a 12.0 goals against average and a .467 save percentage.

The Monarchs will look to continue their winning ways on Wednesday, February 19 when they take on Hampton Roads rival William & Mary at 5 p.m. in Williamsburg.
