NORFOLK, Va. – Alesya Yakubovich (Minsk, Belarus) of the Old Dominion women's tennis team was named the Conference USA Athlete of the Week on Wednesday afternoon, as voted on and announced by league officials. All weekly awards are presented by Top of the World. The weekly award is the third straight for an ODU women's tennis student-athlete.
Yakubovich went a perfect 3-0 last week, picking up two singles wins and one doubles victory, while lifting the Monarchs to two more team wins against Missouri and Wichita State. Both of her singles victories came in straight sets. Yakubovich and doubles partner Yulia Starodubtseva are nationally ranked No. 10, the highest mark for a doubles tandem in program history. Yakubovich and the Monarchs are now 8-1 on the season and have won four straight matches; ODU's only loss came to No. 2 UNC.
Yakubovich and Old Dominion will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 14, when the Monarchs take on Iowa at 3:00 p.m. ET in Iowa City, Iowa.
