NORFOLK, Va. – Luca Maldoner (Innsbruck, Austria) of the Old Dominion men's tennis team was named the Conference USA Athlete of the Week on Wednesday afternoon, as voted on and announced by league officials. All weekly awards are presented by Top of the World.
Maldoner went 3-0 last week, compiling two straight-set singles victories and one win in doubles, while he was leading his other doubles match against SMU (5-3), when it was called off (ODU clinched on the other two courts). Maldoner was the first to finish in all three of his victories, helping lift Old Dominion to two key victories, with the latter being over a Power-5 school (Nebraska). Maldoner and the Monarchs are now 6-1 and have won three-straight. The Innsbruck, Austria-native is nationally ranked No. 111 in singles.
The Old Dominion men's tennis team will return to action on Friday, Feb. 14, when the Monarchs play host to Liberty for a 6:00 p.m. start at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
