NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion women's tennis head coach, Dominic Manilla, announced the entire 2020 spring schedule on Wednesday afternoon. The Tennis Monarchs will compete against a total of 11 teams that ended last season in the ITA's year-end national rankings.
ODU will square-off against six schools represented by the Power Five conferences and five programs which made last year's NCAA Tournament, four in which won at least one match.
No. 2 North Carolina and No. 13 Central Florida entered the newly announced ITA Preseason Top 25 for 2020, while LSU was one of four schools to receive votes.
In all, Old Dominion has 20 scheduled matches, with eight being played at home. The Monarchs will open up with three straight matches at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center and then will conclude the regular season with three consecutive home matches. Admission is free for all of the public for all home ODU tennis matches.
Last season, Manilla (ITA Atlantic Region and C-USA Coach of the Year) led the Monarchs to a 19-5 season, while compiling a perfect 11-0 mark at home and a 3-0 record against conference opponents during the regular season. Manilla's team earned the program's first ever at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, which marked ODU's second ever appearance in the Big Dance and first for the program since 2001. At one point last season, Manilla's Monarchs were nationally ranked No. 19, the highest mark in program history.
