NORFOLK, Va.- Head coach Murray Rudisill of the Old Dominion men's golf program has announced the signing of Jakob Henriksson on Tuesday afternoon.
"We are excited to sign another outstanding Swedish talent for the team next fall. Jacob had an excellent high school and junior record and has taken this year off to work on his golf game and it has paid off," Rudisill said of his newest acquisition.
Henriksson is a native of Stockholm, Sweden, a country that ODU has already plucked three talented golfers from in juniors Gustav Fransson, Rasmus Konradsson and freshman Filip Wetterqvist.
"He is good friends with a couple of our current players and had a wonderful visit to our campus recently," Rudisill explained. "He chose us over three other universities and we are very fortunate to have signed him. We expect him to be a strong contender for an immediate starting spot in our lineup next fall."
Henriksson brings an impressive resume with him to Old Dominion, as he led his home team club to a Swedish Junior Team Championship in 2016 and a runner-up finish in the same event in 2017. Also in 2017 he won a teen tour tournament at Lidingö Golf Club and he placed second at the Richard S. Johnson Junior Open in 2019.
Henriksson is the second signing that the Monarchs have inked for the 2020 fall semester, as he joins Mason McCoy as the newest members of the team.
