NEW YORK – The Old Dominion lacrosse team was selected to finish fifth in the BIG EAST Conference, according to the league's preseason coaches' poll that was released on Friday morning. In the same league announcement, ODU senior Glory Johnson was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.

In 2019, the Monarchs finished in fifth place in the six-team conference, finishing with a 1-4 record against league opponents in their first season of BIG EAST play. Overall, ODU went 4-13 on the season with all four wins coming at home at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.

Johnson, who was named one of the three Monarch captains earlier in the offseason by head coach Heather Holt, scored 53 goals in 2019, the fifth-highest goal total in program history in a single season. She added seven assists, bringing her point total to 60 points, the most an ODU lacrosse player has accumulated since Ashmore Standing collected 82 points in 2016. At the end of last season, Johnson was named second team All-BIG EAST and VaSID second team All-State.

No. 10 Denver, last year's regular-season champions collected 25 points and five of the possible six first-place votes to earn the top spot in the preseason poll, edging out No. 19 and reigning BIG EAST Championship winner Georgetown, who accrued 21 points and earned the other first-place tally. Villanova rounds out the top-three teams, followed by Marquette, ODU and Butler.

The Monarchs start their 2020 season at home on Saturday, February 8 when they host Coastal Carolina at 1 p.m.
