CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Old Dominion women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season by a 4-1 score to No. 2 nationally ranked North Carolina at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center as part of the 12th annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association Kickoff Weekend. ODU's Holly Hutchinson took down the No. 2 ranked singles player in straight sets (7-5, 6-3).
"Despite the loss today I feel good about how we competed," explained ODU head coach Dominic Manilla. "I'm happy with where our competitive spirit is at this point in the season. We will pick over this match with a fine-tooth comb to make sure all lessons are learned and we continue to grow. We are determined to keep getting better every day."
Old Dominion will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 5:00 p.m., when the Monarchs take on LSU in Baton Rouge, La.
