MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After a 12-day break, the Old Dominion women's basketball team returns to the hardwood to open Conference USA play at Middle Tennessee on Thursday, Jan. 2 and at UAB on Saturday, Jan. 4. The Monarchs (10-2) own the strongest record in the league heading into the Thursday evening contest.
ODU picked up three consecutive wins while hosting the inaugural Anne Donovan Classic at the Chartway Arena. Over the three games, ODU defeated the opponents by 110 total points, Most notably by 51 points over the Mount, which marked their first 50+ point win over an opponent since 2004 against Towson.
Individually, Victoria Morris was named Tournament MVP, while Aziah Hudson was named to the All-Tournament team. The pair combined for 75 points through those three games. During the Monarchs dominant win over the Mount, Morris went five-for-five from beyond the arc and scored 19 points.
Best 12-Game Start Since 1998-99
Their 10-2 overall record marks their best start since the 1998-99 season. Most of the current players on the team were born from 1998-2001. During the 98-99 season, Wendy Larry was head coach of the Monarchs. They were crowned CAA Champions and earned a trip to the Sweet 16. Their final mark was 28-4.
About Middle Tennessee
After the holiday break, Middle Tennessee (8-4) immediately saw TCU at home. In that contest, the Blue Raiders defeated the Horn Frogs, 82-70. TCU received votes in the most recent national poll. The team also defeated Auburn in November, a similar opponent as the Monarchs this season.
Individually, rookie Aislynn Hayes has had a solid season thus far, being named United States Basketball Writers Association National Freshman of the Week two times this season. She's also been named C-USA Player of the Week three times this season. Tennessee transfer Anastasia Hayes, sister of Aislynn leads the Blue Raiders, averaging 16.9 ppg.
Defensively, Charity Savage, C-USA POW (12/30) has recorded 145 rebounds, which leads the league. She also leads the Blue Raider squad in steals, grabbing 22 this season.

The Blazers are heading into their league opener with Charlotte on a two-game winning streak. Most recently they defeated Tuskegee by 43 points on Dec. 30. UAB is led offensively by Rachael Childress who averages 17.8 points per game. Childress leads the C-USA in three-point field goals made, recording 48 this season.
