NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion men's tennis head coach Dominik Mueller announced Othmane Lalami as the program's new Associate Head Coach on Monday afternoon. Lalami comes to Norfolk after most recently serving at the Associate Head Coach at Duquesne.

"I am very excited to welcome Othmane and his wife Cayla to our program and our university," said Mueller. "I've watched him coach in our region over the past three years and seen his energy and passion for the game of tennis and his student-athletes. The further we went down the interviewing process, the more I realized that our visions align. He brings a wealth of experience playing on the highest level himself and coaching in Division I. His connections to the African Tennis Center and speaking four languages will be a tremendous asset in recruiting. Overall, we are getting the full package in Othmane in improving our program and developing our student-athletes."

Lalami, a former National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Second-Team All-American, joined the Duquesne staff as Assistant Coach of men's tennis in Sept. 2016. He was promoted to Associate Head Coach in Oct. 2019.

Prior to joining the Duquesne tennis staff, Lalami served as the Head Coach of the Montgomery Country Club in Montgomery, Ala. from 2014-16.

Lalami attended Auburn University at Montgomery, where he was nationally ranked by the NAIA (4th in doubles, 9th in singles), and served as a captain during his senior season.

Along with his national ranking by the NAIA, Lalami earned the Army ROTC Athletic Achievement Award for the 2014-15 academic year. He was also a recipient of the ITA/Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award (South Region) in 2014.

Additionally, Lalami served as a Teaching Professional on the Alpha Tennis and Fitness of Pittsburgh staff since 2016. From 2013-15, Coach Lalami served as the Head Tennis Professional for the MBSC Nike Sports Camps in Boston, Mass.

Lalami is originally from Casablanca, Morocco and was a Moroccan U16 and U18 National Champion.

"I am extremely excited and feel fortunate to join the Monarch family and men's tennis program," Lalami said. "I want to thank Coach Mueller and the Old Dominion athletic department for the opportunity and am eager to get started and work alongside a great leader and head coach in Dominik and a talented group of players. I look forward to continue building on the team's success and helping them reach new heights!"
