Women’s Hoops Heads to VCU for Sunday Tip

RICHMOND, Va. – Closing out road play for 2019, the Old Dominion (7-1) women's basketball team heads to VCU (3-6) to face the Rams on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 1 p.m. in the Siegel Center. The game will be streamed on ESPN+, a paid subscription service. Doug Ripley and Susan Montgomery will be on the call on ESPN Radio 94.1 beginning at 12:30 p.m.
 
The Monarchs are coming off a low-scoring battle against UMES on Dec. 8 at the Chartway Arena. Freshman Marie Reichert led the squad in scoring, recording a career-high 12 points on the Sunday afternoon victory. Amari Young nearly notched a double-double, earning eight points and nine rebounds. 
 
Junior Victoria Morris continues to pace the Monarch scoring, averaging 11.9 points per game. Ajah Wayne has led the way in rebounding, averaging 7.4 rebounds per game. With the Monarchs win against UMES, it marked head coach Nikki McCray's 36th win with the Monarch program, one win over .500. Redshirt sophomore Vanessa Blagmon will see the floor for the first time since transferring from USF and having to sit out due to NCAA Transfer rules. At USF she averaged 6.9 minutes in 30 games and recorded a career-high 11 points.

About the Rams
After posting a stellar 24-10 mark in 2018-19, the Rams are struggling a bit to open up the season. VCU is coming off a loss to William & Mary, which marked their third-straight loss.
 
Individually, Tera Reed leads the Rams in scoring, averaging 11.1 ppg. Junior Sydnei Archie has started in each contest,  leading VCU in the rebounding department averaging 5.7 rbp. Head coach Beth O'Boyle is in her sixth season at the helm of the program. Their 24-10 overall record in 2018-18 was the first 24-win season for the Rams since 2008-09.
