NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men’s basketball team (0-1) will play host to Saint Joseph’s on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 2:00 p.m. ET at Chartway Arena, which will mark the home opener for the Monarchs. Sunday’s contest will stream live on C-USA TV and air across the radio dial on the ODU Sports Network, with Ted Alexander and Dave Twardzik’s pregame show beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Before Sunday’s game, the 2018-19 Conference USA Championship banner will be unveiled. The first 1,000 fans to arrive to the game will receive a free mini C-USA Championship banner. These banners can be picked up in the main lobby of Chartway Arena.
ODU opened the season with a 58-53 loss at UNI. The Monarchs were led by Jason Wade (6 steals and 5 rebounds) and Xavier Green (8 rebounds and 2 assists), who each scored 13 points. For the game, ODU held Northern Iowa to 35.6% (21-59) shooting from the floor and 25.0% (3-12) shooting from deep.
Old Dominion is 3-9 all-time against Saint Joseph’s. The Hawks won last year’s meeting in Philly by a 79-64 score. These two teams first met during the 1979-80 season, in a game SJU won 52-51. Saint Joe’s has won six of the last seven meetings in this series.
SJU opened their season with an 86-81 victory against Bradley, who was picked to finish second in the Missouri Valley Conference in the preseason.
Billy Lange was named head coach of the Saint Joseph’s men’s basketball program in March of 2019, bringing more than 23 years of sideline experience to the Hawks, most recently as assistant coach of the Philadelphia 76ers. He became the 15th head coach in Saint Joseph’s storied 110-year history.
Lange’s college head coaching experience spans nine years with stints at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and the U.S. Naval Academy.
