NORFOLK, Va. – For the second straight month, a student-athlete from the Old Dominion men’s tennis team was named the Conference USA Athlete of the Month, this time it was Luca Maldoner claiming the honor for the month of October.
Maldoner reached the finals match of the ITA Atlantic Region Singles Tournament after taking down four consecutive seeded players, earning a spot at the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships.
Maldoner won the A Draw doubles championship of the River City Tennis Open in Richmond, while claiming 4th place in singles. Maldoner picked up a nationally ranked straight set win in singles against one of UVA’s top players, No. 103 Gianni Ross. For the month, he compiled a 5-1 doubles record.
The Innsbruck, Australia-native will compete in the 2019 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in Newport Beach, Cali. starting tomorrow.
Last month it was Maldoner’s teammate Tomislav Podvinski who garnered the league’s monthly honor.
