GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman - The Old Dominion men's basketball team (3-4) fell to Washington State (3-3) by a 66-50 score on Tuesday night in the second of three games for the Monarchs in the 2019 Cayman Islands Classic at the John Gray Gymnasium. Xavier Green led the way for the Monarchs with 20 points (4-8 3PT) to compliment four rebounds.
Washington State opened the second half on a 34-15 run, extending its lead to 21, 64-43, with 4:32 to play, before cruising to a 16-point victory in the Cayman Islands on Tuesday night.
Also in double-figures for ODU was Marquis Godwin, who scored all 11 of his points in the opening 20 minutes. Godwin went 3-5 from deep and had four boards and one block.
Washington State's C.J. Elleby scored a game-high 21 points for the Cougars.
The Monarchs trailed by two at halftime, 30-28, with Green and Godwin leading the way with 11 points each. The first half experienced 12 lead changes and three ties. ODU connected on 50.0% (6-12) of its three-point attempts in the opening 20 minutes. Old Dominion held the Cougars to 33.3.% (10-30) shooting from the floor and 22.2% (2-9) shooting from deep in the first half.
Old Dominion will be right back in action tomorrow, Nov. 26 at 11:00 a.m. ET, when the Monarchs take on Loyola (Chicago) for seventh place.
