GILBERT, Ariz. –The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its 2019 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Region Teams on Monday afternoon, and Old Dominion field hockey's Rebecca Birch and Erin Huffman were named to the South Region's First and Second Team, respectively.

This is Birch's second All-Region honor of her career, after earning a spot on the Second Team All-South region after her junior season last year. The native of Leeds, United Kingdom also was unanimously named to the First Team All-BIG EAST this season, as the back led the Monarch defense to five shutout victories. Birch also had a very successful campaign on the offensive side of the ball, as she led the Monarchs in both goals and points, with nine and 25, respectively.

The senior was also named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on September 16, and was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll five times.

For Huffman, this is the third time the senior has been honored with an NFHCA All-Region nod, as she was Second Team All-South after her sophomore year and was a First Team selection a season ago. Huffman landed on the All-BIG EAST First Team for the third-consecutive year this season after finishing the season second on the team with eight goals and third on the team with 17 points. The Pennsylvania native was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll once this season.

Both Birch and Huffman were named captains of the ODU field hockey team before the start of the season and both served as alternates in the Victory Sports Tours/NFHCA Senior Game.

This year, 160 Division I student-athletes have been named to Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Region teams. Division I teams are separated into five regions: Mid-Atlantic, Mideast, Northeast, South and West — each region honors 16 student-athletes on a first team and 16 student-athletes on a second team.
