NORFOLK, Va. - The No. 19 Old Dominion field hockey team wraps up its regular season in a road tilt with BIG EAST foe Villanova on Friday, November 1 at 4:00 p.m.

The Monarchs, who have already punched their ticket to the BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship Presented by Jeep, have won four-straight conference matches and are locked in to the two-seed in the conference tournament.

On Friday, ODU dispatched Quinnipiac, 4-0 in the team’s final home game of the season. Four different seniors scored for the Monarchs, as Alexandria Brewer, Jess Miller, Ashleigh Thomas and Erin Huffman each slipped one past the Bobcat goalkeeper in the victory. Defensively, the Monarchs held Quinnipiac to just two shots and kept the Bobcats away from the penalty corner.

On Sunday, the ODU defense held one of the most potent offenses in the nation to just one goal against No. 1 North Carolina, but that one goal for the Tar Heels ended up being the only one they needed, as the Monarchs fell in a tightly contested 1-0 decision.

Freshman Nicole Fredricks was impressive on the defensive side of the field, collecting her first career defensive save. Because of her efforts in the two games last week, she was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this season.

Senior Rebecca Birch leads the team in goals and points, with eight and 22, respectively. Two other Monarchs have double-digit point totals, as Huffman has fifteen points and seven goals, while sophomore Riley Taylor has 14 points and is tied for the team lead with eight assists.

Sophomore goalkeeper Cam MacGillivray has been in goal for every minute of every game this season and has accrued 60 saves this season while posting four shutouts.

About Villanova
Villanova is coming off a 1-1 week, losing 3-0 against Temple on Friday and winning, 7-2 against Davidson on Sunday. Seniors Lydia Sydnor and Megan Vermeil each netted two goals in the victory over Davidson.

Sydnor leads the team with 15 goals, six assists and 36 points. Vermeil checks in at second on the team with nine goals and 21 points. In net, the Wildcats have turned to two goalkeepers this season, Jordan McGinley, who has started 12 games, and Claire Borman, who has started the other four games. The two of them have combined to save 84 shots.

As a team, Villanova has a knack for drawing penalty corners, as they are second in the country averaging 7.75 penalty corner opportunities per game. The Wildcats are also ranked in the top-five in defensive saves, as they have collected 10 on the year, which is tied for fourth place in the nation.

Series History
In the nine meetings these two teams have had in their history, ODU has come away with seven wins. However, last season Villanova took home a 2-1 victory after the two teams had to battle it out in a shootout period. Alexandria Brewer scored the lone goal for the Monarchs in the defeat.
