NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men’s basketball team will host Christopher Newport for its one and only exhibition game on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7:00 p.m. ET at Chartway Arena. All tickets for Wednesday's exhibition game are $10. Wednesday's game will stream live on C-USA TV and will also air on WGH 1310AM (Norfolk/Virginia Beach), WJFN 100.5 (Richmond/Central Virginia) and WLVA 94.1/FOX 580 (Lynchburg).
The Monarchs enter the season following an 26-9 campaign last year that included a first-place finish in Conference USA at 13-5 and a Conference USA Tournament championship, lifting ODU to its first NCAA Tournament since 2011. Last year's appearance in the Big Dance was ODU's 12th appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Head coach Jeff Jones was named the 2019 Conference USA Coach of the Year and will enter the 2019-20 season with 497 career wins, just three victories shy of reaching the 500 milestone. Jones currently ranks 72nd for most all-time wins in NCAA Division I history.
Team co-captain Xavier Green (Williamsburg, Va.) was named MVP of last year’s Conference USA Tournament, as well as was named to the C-USA All-Tournament Team. Green also earned one of five spots on the Conference USA All-Defensive Team. Green was named to the All-Conference Preseason Team earlier this month.
Old Dominion was picked to finish fourth in the C-USA Preseason Poll, behind Western Kentucky, UTSA and LA Tech.
CNU is coming off a 29-4 season last year and advanced to the Final Four for the second time in program history, as well as the second time in the last four years.
