NORFOLK, Va. – The No. 19 Old Dominion field hockey team (9-5, 5-1 BIG EAST) celebrated its Senior Day in style, winning its final home game of the season against Quinnipiac (3-13, 1-5 BIG EAST) in a 4-0 shutout.

Four different seniors scored the Monarch goals, as Alexandria Brewer, Jess Miller, Ashleigh Thomas and Erin Huffman each tickled the twine, making the program’s Senior Day that much more special.

ODU got on the board first in the game’s 12th minute, thanks to a trio of seniors. Thomas passed the ball to Rebecca Birch, who quickly passed it along to Brewer who then beat Quinnipiac goalkeeper Mack Vorel, giving the Monarchs a 1-0 lead in the first quarter.

The team’s second goal of the afternoon was a perfectly executed play off a corner. Jess Miller netted the score, deflecting a shot from Birch passed Vorel to give her team a two-goal advantage into the halftime locker rooms.

ODU would add two more goals in the second half, the first of which came off the stick of Thomas. She snuffed out the loose ball in front of the Quinnipiac goal and deposited a shot into the net for her first goal of the season in the 36th minute of action.

The fourth and final goal came in the fourth quarter, as Huffman tallied her seventh goal of the season after deflecting a pass from Brewer into the back of the net.

Old Dominion held the Bobcats to just two shots and kept them away from the penalty corner for the entire game. The Monarchs ended the game with 21 shots and a season-high 11 penalty corners.

Brewer and Thomas each ended the game with a goal and an assist. Huffman had a goal on a team-high six shots, while Birch collected two assists in the effort.

In goal, sophomore Cam MacGillivray posted her fourth shutout of the season, after only having to turn aside one shot on goal.

ODU next sets its sights on the No. 1 team in the country, North Carolina, as the team will travel down to Chapel Hill for a 1:00 p.m. match Sunday, October 27.
