BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team (8-3-4, 2-3-2 C-USA) played UAB (4-5-5, 2-3-2 C-USA) to a 2-2 draw after 110 minutes at BBVA Field on Sunday afternoon. With the result, the Monarchs extended their unbeaten streak to four consecutive matches.

“This certainly wasn’t the prettiest game of soccer today,” said ODU head coach Angie Hind. “I think for both teams it was really scrappy. We took a good lead and then really couldn’t find the rhythm to build from that. Disappointed to give away the lead late in the game and then lose another goal soon after it, but you have to give credit to the resilience of this group as we dug deep and found a way, with a minute left to tie it up. That’s the biggest positive to take from today, we are never beaten.”

In the 10th minute, Amanda Nhek played in a short cross to Talia Tapper, in which Tapper one-timed into the back of the Blazers’ net, giving ODU an early 1-0 lead, which they would take with them into the locker rooms at halftime. The goal was Tapper’s third of the season. Old Dominion outshot UAB 4-3 in the opening 45 minutes.

In the 83rd minute, Regan Kommor tied the match for the Blazers. Less than three minutes later in the 86th minute, Sha’Nya Stephens gave UAB a 2-1 lead.

With 38 seconds remaining in regulation, ODU’s Riley Kennett scored her second goal of the season, sending the match into overtime.

Old Dominion outshot the Blazers 5-1 for the two overtime sessions.

Sunday afternoon marked the seventh overtime match for ODU (2-1-4) this season and third in as many matches for the Monarchs.

Old Dominion will return to action on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7:00 p.m., when the Monarchs host UTSA. ODU’s Senior Day will be held on Oct. 27 at 12:00 p.m. against UTEP; fans are asked to arrive early for the Senior Day ceremony. Both matches will stream on C-USA TV.
