NORFOLK, Va. – The Victory Sports Tours/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its senior game selections on Tuesday morning, and Old Dominion field hockey’s two senior captains Rebecca Birch and Erin Huffman have both been named as alternates for the event. 

Birch is a three-time BIG EAST Player of the Week award winner, and was named First Team All-BIG EAST, First Team All-State and Second Team All-South Region following her junior campaign of 2018.  She has been a starter in every game since she came to Old Dominion, a total of 64 games. 

In her career, Birch has totaled 21 goals, six game-winning goals and nine assists. This season, she leads the Monarchs in goals and points, with seven and 17, respectively. 

Huffman has earned First Team All-BIG EAST honors twice and was named to the First Team All-NFHCA South Region, the Second Team All-State, the Second Team All-NFHCA South Region and the NFHCA National Academic Squad. 

She is a member of the United States National Development squad, and has earned BIG EAST Player of the Week honors twice in her career, the first was a Freshman of the Week award and the other was an Offensive Player of the Week award given to her last season.

Huffman has appeared in 63 games in her career for the Monarchs, totaling 30 goals and 66 points. She currently has five goals and 11 points in her senior campaign. 

Each year the Victory Sports Tours/NFHCA Division I Senior Game features the top senior players in the nation. This season, the game will take place in conjunction with the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  

The event is scheduled to occur on Friday, November 22 at Ketner Stadium on the campus of Wake Forest. It will begin after the conclusion of the NCAA Division I semifinal games. For the NFHCA’s official release, including the names of all the seniors honored, click here.

The two captains will lead the Monarchs into their next match, a BIG EAST battle against Temple at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 18.
