> Old Dominion travels to Birmingham to take on UAB for the first meeting between the two schools.
> ODU (1-5, 0-2 C-USA) lost at Marshall last Saturday, 31-17. UAB won at UTSA, 33-14.
> Messiah deWeaver took over at quarterback early in the first quarter at Marshall and provided a spark for the offense. He
completed 8-of-14 passes for 100 yards and a touchdown, and rushed for 22 yards.
> Blake Watson had 180 all-purpose yards, including 166 kickoff return yards, the fifth most in a game in ODU history. He set up a field goal at the end of the first half, and set up Kesean Strong’s 24-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
> Lawrence Garner and Jordan Young combined for 23 tackles. Garner had 12 tackles and a sack, while Young had 11 stops , half a tackle for loss and two quarterback hurries.
Watson Creates Offense on Special Teams
Blake Watson had kick returns of 75 and 66 yards at Marshall, setting up a field goal on the last play of the first half, and a touchdown for the Monarchs in the third quarter.
Watson leads Conference USA and is ninth in FBS with a 29.3 yard return average.

Redshirt Freshmen Receivers Arriving
For the third-straight game, Nigel Fitzgerald delivered a big play for the ODU offense. He has had one catch for gains of 44, 27 and 20 yards.
At Marshall, Aaron Moore caught a 44-yard touchdown pass from Messiah deWeaver, his first career touchdown and the third catch of his career. Moore’s touchdown catch was the first by an ODU receiver this season.
Garner Does What He Does
Junior linebacker Lawrence Garner had 12 tackles for the second-straight game and recorded his third straight double-digit tackle game.
Garner’s tackle total has increased in every game this season. He is second in Conference USA with 59 tackles and tied for 20th nationally with 9.8 tackles per game.
