NORFOLK, Va. - Yulia Starodubtseva (Kakhovka, Ukraine), a junior on the Old Dominion women’s tennis team, was named the Conference USA Athlete of the Month on Tuesday afternoon, as announced and voted on by league officials.
Starodubtseva went a perfect 3-0 in singles, as well as in doubles at the 2019 ITA Hall of Fame Classic, hosted by William & Mary. She defeated opponents from Maryland, Penn State and Miami (Fla.) in singles and from Penn State, Liberty and VCU in doubles. In singles sets, she outscored her opposition 24-6, while in doubles she outscored her opponents 24-7. In singles and doubles sets combined, Starodubtseva outscored her opponents 48-13. She won all of her singles matches in straight sets.
For total team scores, Starodubtseva and the Old Dominion women’s tennis team outscored it opposition 15-2 in singles, 8-0 in doubles and 23-2 combined against the likes of Maryland, Penn State, Miami, VCU, Liberty and William & Mary. In singles, ODU defeated Maryland 5-1, Penn State 6-0, Miami (Fla.) 2-0 and Liberty 2-0. In doubles, the Monarchs downed Penn State 3-0, Liberty 3-0 and VCU 2-0.
