CHARLESTON, S.C. – Shalimar Talbi, a freshman on the ODU women’s tennis team, made it through the Qualifying Draw and advanced to the Round of 16 at the ITF 60k in Charleston, S.C. The Minsk, Belarus-native will be right back in action for the ITF 25k in Hilton Head on Oct. 7-13, before traveling to Charlottesville, Va. to compete in the Commonwealth Cup. Talbi will forego participation in the 2019 ITA All-American Championships.
Talbi won both her matches in straight sets in the Qualifying Draw in Charleston to punch her ticket to the Main Draw. The second match in the Qualifying Draw came against Russia’s Anastasia Sukhotina, who owns a WTA Singles Ranking of 643.
In the Round of 32 of the Main Draw, Talbi again claimed a straight set victory (6-3, 7-5) over Ashley Kratzer of the United States. Kratzer’s WTA ranking was 432.
In the Round of 16 of the Main Draw, Talbi won the first set but ultimately would fall in three sets (7-6(4), 6-7(5), 0-6) to Renata Zarazua of Mexico (WTA: 318).
