NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team (2-0-1) will welcome Longwood (1-2-0) to the ODU Soccer Complex on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 2:00 p.m. ET. Thursday's match will stream live on C-USA TV. The Monarchs will then travel to Richmond, Va. for a Sunday, Sept. 8 match at VCU (4-0-0) at 5:00 p.m. on ESPN+. Thursday’s match against the Lancers was originally slated for a 7:00 p.m. start; however, was moved up to a 2:00 p.m. start due to possible inclement weather stemming from Hurricane Dorian. Thursday’s match is FREE for all of the public.
The Monarchs will look to remain unbeaten for the season after getting off to a 2-0-1 start, with victories over Towson and George Mason and a draw at Liberty. In its first three games, ODU has outscored its opponents 8-3. Old Dominion has not allowed more than one goal in any of its first three matches.
Amanda Nhek has led the offense charge for the Monarchs, with three goals, two assists and eight points, all of which lead the squad. Junior goalkeeper Kasey Perry is coming off a career-high seven save performance at Liberty last week.
Bolstered by back-to-back third-place Big South finishes and just two years removed from a trip to the conference title game, Longwood women's soccer was picked third in the 2019 Big South Preseason Coaches Poll. That recognition comes on the strength of last year's finish and a veteran roster that returns seven starters and 19 letterwinners from last year's 6-2-2 Big South squad.
The VCU Women's Soccer team was tabbed second in the Atlantic 10 Conference Preseason Poll. Last season, VCU finished with a 16-4-0 overall mark and a 9-1-0 A-10 record. The Rams return eight starters from last year's A-10 Tournament runner-up squad.
