> Lawrence Garner and Geronda Hall tied for a game-high eight tackles. Hall’s eight tackles is a career-high.

> ODU forced three turnovers in the win over Norfolk State, tying for 15th nationally in takeaways  after week one.

> Last year in Norfolk, ODU upset the No. 13 Hokies, 49-35. Blake LaRussa threw for 495 yards and four touchdowns as the

Monarchs defeated a Power-Five and ranked FBS opponent for the first time in school history.

Smartt Takes Hold
Stone Smartt started at quarterback for ODU and completed 9 of his first 10 passes and led ODU to a pair of touchdowns on the first two drives of the game.

He finished 17-of-23 for 158 yards and a touchdown. His 74 percent completion percentage was 17th in FBS.

What’s a Huddle
For the first time in 11-year history of ODU football, the Monarchs huddled in Saturday’s win over Norfolk State. The huddle led to a slow down of the game, and just 63 plays for the Monarchs.

The 63 plays would have been the second lowest in 2018, and the Monarchs were in the 60s just twice last season.

Lala Land
Lala Davis scored the game-winning touchown against Norfolk State, and for the second time in his career and just his fifth career-game, notched a game-winning touchdown.

Last season against North Texas, Davis rushed for the game-winning one-yard TD.

He ran for a game-high 62 yards.

Garner Atop Tackles Charts (Again)
Lawrence Garner led ODU in tackles in eight of the nine games he played last season, and continued that trend last night with a team-high tying eight tackles.

His eight tackles would have been his second lowest output of last season.

Virginia is for Lovers of Football
Old Dominion does not leave the state of Virginia until mid-October, as the first five games are in Virginia. ODU hosted Norfolk State in the opener, travels to Virginia Tech this week, then has a bye before heading to the University of Virginia. That is followed up with back-to-back home games against East Carolina and WKU.
