MacGillivray Earns Synapse Sports Player of the Week Nod

NORFOLK, Va. – Sophomore goalkeeper Cam MacGillivray was named the Synapse Sports Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Old Dominion field hockey team to a 3-0 week.

MacGillivray earned three wins this past week, a 3-1 decision over William & Mary, a 2-1 win over then-No. 17 Penn State and a 2-0 shutout victory over Virginia Commonwealth. She totaled 13 saves, including a season-high six saves in the game against the Nittany Lions.

Overall this season, MacGillivray is 4-1 with 17 saves, two shutouts and a goals against average of 1.09.

Each week during the season, the Synapse Sports staff selects Offensive, Defensive and Rookie of the Week awards to field hockey players in recognition of their outstanding play. Along with MacGillivray, Synapse Sports recognized Columbia’s Kelsey Farkas as the Offensive Player of the Week and Duke’s Hannah Miller as the Rookie of the Week. 

The Monarchs will start Big East Conference play this Friday, when they travel to Rhode Island to take on Providence. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
